You can absolutely negotiate the price on a
vacation rental by owner, and I would
strongly suggest that you do. When you find a
home on a rent-by-owner site, email the owner
and ask them if they are negotiable. Most
owners will give you some sort of discount.
Owners invariably try to get the highest
price they can, but will come down if they
find a serious tenant.
Today's down economy presents an especially
good time to get a discount. Even vacation
rental homes managed by a company will
negotiate the rental price by about 10-15%
off the original price.
